Let’s face it…
the enemy is always going to be coming for you. His job is to feed you lies to make you believe you’re weak, lonely, and unloved. And his best tactic is to attack you when you’re already down. That’s why memorizing scripture is so important.
As my depression deepened, I felt all alone in a room full of people. It was strange because it was usually a room full of people I knew.
I’d have these thoughts like: Should I have worn my hair like this?; Why did I wear this dress?; Everyone else looks so pretty.
But then…
I learned the power of scripture weapons!
I’ll be honest, I certainly could memorize a whole lot more scripture, but I want to share 5 full-proof ones that will give you strength through lonely times.
They’ve helped me and God promises they will help you, too.
Fight Back with Scripture!
- “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13.
I know this isn’t usually one that people talk about using when feeling lonely, but it lets us know that even in that lonely situation you’re in, you CAN get through it with Christ.
- “Indeed the hour is coming, yes, has now come, that you will be scattered, each to his own, and will leave Me alone. And yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me.” John 16:32
I love this one because sometimes we can feel abandoned. This verse promises us that even if we have been abandoned, we’re not alone, because God is there.
- “Many sorrows shall be to the wicked: but he that trusteth in the Lord, mercy shall compass him about.” Psalms 32:10
As Christians, we’re not immune to sorrow.
But whenever we begin to feel lonely and sorrowful, this promise reminds us that the wicked have many sorrows, but mercy surrounds (like a big, fluffy, soft blanket around you) those that trust in Him.
- “He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.” Psalm 147:3
Feel those deep wounds healing from the inside out right now.
- “Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” Hebrews 13:5
You and your friends probably have busy lives, and don’t see each other as much as you’d like.
Take advantage of those alone times to encourage yourself in the Lord.
And, when you’re feeling particularly lonely, make the first move to get everyone together. It can be as simple as, “Hey, everybody! Potluck at my place!”
Count me in!
